My name is Ryan Mason. I grew up in Marcola, Oregon where I attended high school and made comics for the school paper. I got my associates degree in multimedia and made comics for the college paper. I currently work at a television station in Eugene.

If you have any questions you'd like to ask, feel free to contact me. email me at ryantmason@msn.com anytime.

Sometimes people ask me where I get ideas or how I think of comics. The truth is there isn't a set way to go about it, sometimes ideas just pop up, but most often I just listen to music and try to relax, then ponder life's situations and interesting creatures.

I thought it might be fun to include some different comics and maybe explain where they came from. If you're curious about a comic, email me and I will include it!

My Grandparents and Parents told me when I was younger to not worry about the crabs we caught, because they die instantly when they touch the water. I'm pretty sure that's not the case, but it made it easier to let my new friends go!

I was driving to work one day when I noticed a large spider bungee jumping to the left of my head. It may have lived in my sun visor. Either way, it took all of my strength to not scream and drive into a light pole.

When I was real young I rode an elephant with my little brother at the circus, and even at that age didn't think saftey was a given.

If you've ever been picked last, you know the horrible feeling. I just thought it would be funny if not even staying home spared embarassment.

I had a friend who was dating a girl with an overprotective dad who I'm sure would find this a stellar idea. Of course, I can see me doing this if I have a daughter one day.

A prominent faculty member of my high school got caught in a police sting several years after I got out of school. Working at a TV station, I saw the story ran over and over again.

While talking to someone in close quarters, they began scratching their leg and told me they didn't know what type of rash they had.

This one came from a broken heart. I imagine everyone feels this way.

The Comic Process

On the left is the inking pen I use to finalize my comics. Comic ideas start out as sketches in small memo pads I carry around with me.

Once an idea is thought up, I try to sketch it down as soon as possible, or at least write it down so I won't forget about it.

When it comes time for me to ink a comic, I'll flip through some of my sketch pads and choose several comics. I then redraw the ideas in pencil on a large peice of inkable paper. Then using a metal tipped pen, and bottle of ink, I trace my pencil lines. Once dry, the lines are erased and the comic is ready to be scanned.

I use photoshop to clean up my scan and add captions.
