Introduction

At Random Comics is a single panel cartoon that I've been drawing for quite a long time. I started off drawing comics for a high school paper, and then made them for my college paper, The Torch. Right now making comics is something I do on the side. I hope to one day be syndicated in newspapers and have books printed. I ink 6 comics a week because that's what I'd need if a newspaper ever wants 'At Random'. It's good practice, and will help me meet deadlines in the future.

Making comics is something I love to do. I really like to make people laugh, and making comics is a great outlet for that. I recently finished up my 20th memo pad, 1600 comics. And that was just in two years. I plan on making comics for as long as I can. Being syndicated would be incredible, and that is my ultimate goal. Syndicates have connections to thousands of papers, and can distribute comics all over the world.

The Process

I sketch down my ideas in memo pads I carry with me, then I redraw them on a bigger piece of inkable paper in a 6in x 7.5in dimension. I then pen & ink over what I've drawn and erase the underlying pencil lines. The metal part of the pen that you dip in the ink is called a nib, I use a nib that Jan Eliot(creator of Stone Soup)gave me.After scanning and editing in Photoshop the comic is good to go.

What is At Random?

I use the name At Random because my comics don't really have much in common with each other. My single panel comics aren't constrained to a certain group of characters, but rather anything you can think of. I love the freedom of single panel comics. Anything can talk, any event can take place, and no matter how random it is, it's a legitimate comic.
